The PC racing simulation category isn't what it once was. While the PC used to be home to a big variety of classic, in-depth racing sim series, the ever-increasing power of game consoles and the promise of more sales have led many would-be racing developers to abandon the PC altogether. Consider SimBin's GTR 2, the sequel to 2005's GTR FIA Racing, a hearkening back to the good old days of sim racing. It's an expansive and challenging sequel to one of the best racing games of last year and, at its price, it remains one of the best bargains of the year for the PC.

From a content standpoint, GTR 2 isn't that much different from the original. The game still revolves around GT racing--a compelling mixture of multiclass sports cars from makers such as Ferrari, Porsche, TVR, Saleen, and many more, all competing on a cosmopolitan lineup of real-life tracks from all over the world. Additionally, the driving model, which so authentically captured the thrilling yet often twitchy experience of driving a highly tuned sports car in the original GTR, is even more finely tuned in the sequel. The lion's share of the game's improvements, then, can be seen in the slight planing down of the original game's often steep learning curve.

Left 4 Dead is a first-person shooter, though it makes use of the third-person perspective during cut scenes and some player actions. In campaign mode, the player takes control of one of the survivors; if four human players are not available, then the remaining survivors are AI-controlled bots. They play through the levels fighting off the infected—living humans who have been infected with a mutagenic, rabies-like virus to which the survivors are immune.[2][3]

The game is focused on cooperation and team play; colored outlines of teammates are visible through walls to help players stick together and coordinate their movement. If a survivor falls off a ledge, then they may automatically hang onto it and can only be helped up by another survivor. If a survivor's health is depleted, then they become incapacitated and can only be revived by another survivor, at which point they continue playing with a low amount of health that decreases over time. If a survivor has been incapacitated and revived twice without tending to their wounds, then they will experience distorted black-and-white vision, and the next incapacitation will kill the character. If a survivor incurs enough damage while incapacitated, or is not eventually helped up by teammates, then the incapacitated character will die. If a survivor is killed, then they will respawn in a closet or other enclosed space after a period of time (except during key points in the scenario), but must be freed by another survivor to rejoin the team. Otherwise, the player must wait until the next level.[4] Survivors can share first-aid kits and pain pills and help each other heal. Left 4 Dead has friendly fire that cannot be disabled, increasing the need for caution around other survivors. On the easy difficulty level, friendly fire does not harm teammates but still registers as having occurred with a notice on the screen saying, "Don't shoot teammates!"

Terminator Salvation was supposed to be a great way to entertain for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 gamers. However, only two of them can enjoy the newly released game, and the PS3 and Xbox 360 version are working fine. So this leaves only the PC version. Well, actually not good at all, as the game isn’t working, you cannot install it. When PC users are trying to install the game, they get a Terminator Salvation Install Error, and Evolved Games has already acknowledged the problem and the developer ordered a mass recall.

The game is set two years before the events of the movie, and though it features some of the actors from the film, Christian Bale is notably absent. The story chronicles a particularly foolhardy mission, and it does a reasonably good job of depicting John Connor on his journey from foot soldier to leader of humankind. There are a lot of cutscenes (sometimes too many) that help lend the game a cinematic feel, but the not-so-great character models and general blurriness keep them from feeling dramatic. The thoughtful and detailed environments do a better job of setting the postapocalyptic stage, the PC sports higher resolutions than its console counterparts. Unfortunately, the system requirements are relatively high, and the video options are laughably limited. You can tweak your resolution, aspect ratio, and brightness, leaving players hoping for scalability out in the cold.

The storylines of the three player characters are independent of one another. What to Expect: Splash Damage's class-based multiplayer mod to the world of Wolfenstein was amazingly successful and now the team is turning this approach to the venerable Quake universe. So, mankind has been beset with a monumental task which is to either adapt human beings for living in extraterrestrial conditions, or to find an Earth-like planet where people can live.

The A.X. Corporation, which is the largest genetic and space military engineering company, has undertaken to conduct the research. After a while, the Corporation, with Mr.Crizby at the head, offered the technology that could allow human beings to survive in any alien extraterrestrial environment. On a distant planet they found a mineral from which they could produce a vaccine that would allow human beings to live in any environment. The Corporation’s proposal was to inject their vaccine into every person and then move to some other planet beyond the solar system.

The Intelligence Agency has been very confused being entirely dependent on the Corporation and furthermore, nobody knows how the mineral will influence human organisms. Moreover, according to their information there was an astronaut, John Rick, who had supposedly found a so-called “Second Earth” which was a planet with an Earth-like environment. Based on secret information, John Rick returned from his space expedition and disappeared. The Intelligence Agency suspected the Corporation of removing John Rick in order to subordinate all of mankind for their financial interests.

The Intelligence Agency has commissioned the main hero whose name is Frank, to find out what is happening inside the Corporation’s confines and to get the information about the Earth-like planet if it really exists.

For the uninitiated, Splinter Cell inserts you in the nightvision goggles of Sam Fisher, a solo operative of the NSA who must break the backbone of worldwide political crisis by infiltrating enemy outposts. The gameplay succeeds brilliantly, immersing you in the challenge of sneaking through hostile territory, deploying awesome gadgets like fiber-optic cameras, and getting the drop on unsuspecting enemies.

The lone criticism is that completing your appointed tasks sometimes involves frustrating try-die-repeat cycles. But if you?re the sort who enjoys the almost puzzle-like challenge, you won?t even notice. Visually, the game is just beautiful?the eye-popping lighting in particular is remarkable. The audio also shines, especially Michael Ironside?s fine voice acting (he plays Sam).

As far as the levels and their layouts, the PC version of Splinter Cell is an exact copy of the Xbox original. Some differences in the controls are both necessary and obvious, and keyboard/mouse fans will enjoy that setup. The downside is that without an analog joystick to indicate whether Sam creeps, walks, or runs, players must use the mouse wheel. Granted, it?s the only logical solution, but it?s quite clumsy. Picking locks is also inelegant, requiring much stabbing at the keyboard?overall, the Xbox version controls better. A major plus on the PC side, though, is the ability to save anytime.

In the final analysis, Splinter Cell makes for a fine PC game. If you weren?t able to infiltrate Sam?s world on the Xbox, this excellent port provides a can?t-miss opportunity.

What to Expect: As awesome as Company of Heroes was, we'd have been happy with more of the same. But rather than cashing in with a simple mission pack, the gang at Relic has included two entirely new armies, two new campaigns and a number of graphical improvements. The new armies play differently; the British 2nd Army are the ultimate defensive fighters, able to create their own defensive emplacements on the fly while the German Panzer Elite are exactly the opposite, relying on rapid mechanized advances to stay on the attack. Cool new weather and time of day effects lend an air of believability to the Caen and Market-Garden campaigns. DirectX 10 support increases the game's visual appeal, but it still looks amazing even on older DX9 systems.

What to Expect: Far Cry was easily one of the best looking games of its day and the same can be said of Crytek's next project, Crysis. When you add in an exciting story of, rising tensions between the US and North Korea over an alien crash site and a subsequent alien invasion, it's clear to see that there's more than meets the eye in Crysis. High tech weaponry and an inventive nano-suit that allows for some interesting super powers round out the package for what looks to be one of the best shooters of the year.
